Jim Kelly, Director

Jim Kelly is a Chartered Landscape Architect with 16 years of professional practice and founder of Match Landscape Architects. He has a passion for design and creating sensitive and equitable places, fostered by an approach based on on four simple principles:

  • Landscapes must be functional, legible and enjoyable.
  • A place should benefit its locality, both environmentally and socially.
  • The landscape must not exclude or ‘other’ people nor allow the built environment to reinforce or foster insecurity or disabilities.
  • The built environment should address environmental and ecological challenges as they exist and arise.

Jim specialises in developing high quality proposals for complex sites. Visit the ‘work’ page to see a selection of the project led by Jim and the Match LA team. Before Match, Jim worked at HTA Design where his portfolio comprised challenging and high-profile sites, such as at LB Enfield’s Meridian Water Phase 1, where he led a design team in the preparation of public realm proposals that included 3 parks and a new civic square on behalf of Countryside. A council-led regeneration, the design development for Meridian Water was heavily scrutinised from developer client, the LPA landowner and Enfield planning officers, as such requiring careful assessment of varying directions and clear communication of ideas and design decision making.

He is also experienced in detailing and overseeing the delivery of beautiful and functional landscapes in varying settings. He understands clearly the connection between decisions made early in a design process, and the implementations later when a project is being realised. At Greenwich Peninsula he led the technical design and site stages for 3 new blocks, their associated communal and public realm areas, a series of neighbourhood streets, and a new square.

Dan Bilsborough, Associate

Dan is a Chartered Landscape Architect who combines a strong conceptual approach, and a meticulous attention to detail. With a passion for sustainable design, people-centered environments, and place-making, he leads on a number of housing regeneration projects for Match Landscape Architects. Dan currently sits on the Housing Forum’s 2024 Future Leaders Cohort and has over 10 years of professional experience.

Prior to joining Match, Dan spent five years as a Senior Landscape Architect at HTA Design. During this period, he contributed to various high-profile projects across London, including The Green Quarter in Southall, and a new sustainable neighborhood in Beckton, both for Berkeley Homes. He also played a significant role in the regeneration of the Joyce & Snells Estate in Enfield, a highly ambitious hybrid application for 2,000 homes.

Before his tenure at HTA, Dan worked at Xanthe Quayle Landscape Architects, where he was instrumental in a diverse range of commercial, private, and public realm developments across the UK, including the Exhibition Centre in Liverpool and the regeneration of Holland Park in West London. After graduating from the University of Sheffield, Dan spent six months in Western Australia. There, he worked on significant landscape construction projects, most notably the $2.6 billion regeneration of the Perth Waterfront at Elizabeth Quay.
