Our Pineheath woodland living project in Norfolk sees a disused older persons care facility converted into new homes in a beautiful treed setting.
Historically built as a children’s sanatorium in the early 20th century, the approach to landscape and placemaking focused on maximising the woodland’s impression on residents’ lives, encouraging active lifestyles and positive mental health. Front doors step onto meadows with wooded back drops, play is integrated into every space and new accesses to the surrounding woodland have been created.
Allotments, play spaces, meadows and community social space are all nestled amongst native trees, scrub and hedgerows and despite the challenging baseline, the project boasts a 43% biodiversity net gain, a fantastic achievement given the verdant setting.
