We are delighted that a new application for the Fraser’s Timber Merchants site at Ham Wharf, Brentford has been granted planning permission by Hounslow’s Planning Committee, moving from submission to resolution in just over two months!
The updated proposal reduces the height and scale of the development, replacing the previously approved two-block scheme of six and ten storeys with a single six-storey C-shaped building. The revised scheme also delivers 100% social rented housing, providing 56 much-needed new homes for the local area.
The proposal opens the site to the River Brent and introduces a new public route, whilst maintaining a contextual relationship with neighbouring sites, including the recently completed Brentford Project. The revised architectural approach creates the opportunity for a clearer reference to the historic warehouse and wharf-style character of the surrounding context.
The landscape design creates a distinctive and layered environment that celebrates the site’s riverside setting and industrial heritage, whilst providing high-quality, verdant social spaces for residents and visitors. A generous courtyard garden forms the heart of the scheme, complemented by improved access routes, playful interventions, and sustainable planting that support community life and enhanced biodiversity.
Improvements to the Grand Union Canal Walk - including lighting, surfacing and public art - will follow the principles of the extant consent, helping to open this important pedestrian route, creating a more inclusive and characterful space that benefits the wider community.
